1/72 Diorama Kit "Sophia's Balcony" by FCH

$39.99 USD

1/72 diorama kit, "Sophia's Balcony". Designed and cast in a premium polyurethane resin by company owner David Gurinskas, this military diorama model kit contains 23 high quality pieces requiring assembly, gluing and painting.(For how to paint dioramas, please refer to the articles in the category, "Painting Techniques"). The inspiration for this diorama came from actual buildings seen throughout Southern France and Italy, and would be perfect for displaying WW1 or WW2 military vehicles that operated in these countries. It would also be an excellent addition to any architectural art collection, or for displaying 1/64 scale die cast vehicles.

Unlike most dioramas that are manufactured for the military modeler, this kit represents two buildings which have not been destroyed. Many photos of WW1 and WW2 show soldiers and their equipment passing through villages on the way to the Front with buildings untouched by the fighting. With this kit, you can create a scene which can show a lull in the fighting as troops relax, or are passing through a village. Maybe even add a bit of humour. The possibilities are endless.

Features of the diorama include a highly detailed solid resin base with brick sidewalk and cobblestone street with sewer grate and manhole cover. Base measures 3 1/2" (90mm) x 5 3/8" (135mm) x 11/16" (18mm) high.

The building fronts measure 5 1/8" (131mm) long x 3 3/4" (96mm) high x 7/8" (23mm) thick. The total height of the diorama including the buildings and base is 4 3/8" (112mm) tall and is designed to fit any standard size shelf or bookcase. Felt pads for under the base are also included, and each kit is carefully wrapped in bubble wrap inside it's own box.

Features of the building fronts include highly detailed clay tiled roofs, stone wall construction with flaking stucco on the left building, brick construction with flaking stucco on Sophia's building. Building addresses are cast on both. Sophia's building also features beautiful french doors looking out onto a balcony with a brass photo-etched railing. Both buildings also feature detailed door knockers and door handles, gutters, downspouts and downspout brackets. Shutters are included for both buildings, and can be mounted open, closed, or left off entirely. Also included is a resin streetlight and vacuformed awning for Sophia's entrance.

The diorama buildings were sculpted to represent old buildings which have settled a bit over time, therefore some of their features appear to have sagged, and are not square. This detail enhances the accuracy of the diorama.
